This was part of the Friend magazine 2 years ago, found here and printable. Reading scriptures is difficult for my high energy boys, but just reading/listening to 3-4 is manageable, especially if they have a picture to look at and talk about after. This Christmas activity is perfect - it provides a scripture each day plus a Gospel Art Kit picture reference. For instance, last night we read Isaiah 7:14, 9:6-7. If you could have an all-time favorite Messianic prophecy, verse 6 of chapter 9 in Isaiah would be mine.
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
I can never read that without hearing Handel's music in my head. Love, love, love that scripture and the song.
Tomorrow: our tree! We have it and it has lights on it and is making my little house smell like Christmas. We'll decorate it this afternoon and take pictures! Hooray for the awesome Boy Scouts who were selling trees as a fund-raiser. I can support that. They tied it to the roof of the car for us (what else would you expect from a group of Boy Scouts - good knots!).
In the Ensign this month there is the history of Handel and how this most famous "Messiah" was written. I had never known the story and thought it was amazing. I'm going to share it with the kids and hope they feel the power of the music.
